After going through the changes associated with vaginal childbirth, menopause and other hormonal changes, it is common for women to experience vaginal symptoms such as dryness, looseness, pressure and other uncomfortable issues. While these issues alone can be distressing and embarrassing, they can also cause more problems of both a cosmetic and functional nature. Because you may feel self-conscious about these conditions, you may not be aware that there are several options available to treat them.

At Cosmetic Gynecology and Aesthetics, our practice OF women, FOR women is here to help you find answers to your most intimate questions. We understand that the functional and sexual changes you are going through may be uncomfortable to talk about, and so not only do we treat you with the utmost sensitivity, but strive to put you at ease from start to finish. We offer several options to treat sexual dysfunction, and our doctors will work with you to find the right treatment to help you regain both your confidence and control over your sexual health.

Sexual dysfunction is often caused by many factors and thus sometimes more than one treatment is required to help achieve sexual health. The treatments that we offer at Cosmetic Gynecology and Aesthetics include

ADDYI®

Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is a condition that has been recognized by the medical community for over thirty years, and is one of the most common problems addressed by sex therapists. It is estimated that nearly one-third of pre-menopausal women suffer from HSDD, which is marked by an overall low sexual desire, no matter the partner, activity or situation. While there were no concrete ways to treat HSDD in the past, in 2015, the FDA approved Addyi®, a prescription medication used to treat HSDD.

Addyi® is a non-hormonal treatment taken in pill form once daily. It is designed to increase sexual desire in women whose low interest in sex is NOT due to:

  • Medical issues

  • Problems as a result of drug use (prescription or recreational)

  • Mental health problems

  • Problems in their relationships

If you and your doctor decide that Addyi® is something that can help treat your HSDD, keep in mind that there are side effects, and your doctor should know your full medical history before prescribing it to you.

REJUVANATE LASER TREATMENT

The RejuVAnate laser uses CO2 fractional laser technology designed to deliver fractional beams of CO2 laser energy to the vaginal tissues. These pulses of laser energy cause the tissues to contract, as well as stimulate the natural collagen production in the vaginal walls. The result of this quick, minimally invasive treatment is increased elasticity, less vaginal atrophy, increased vaginal tightness, and added bladder support.

Most women will require three sessions for optimal results, but the treatment is painless and there are no side effects and no downtime required for recovery. After completing your course of treatment, you will experience noticeable reductions in:

  • Dryness/irritation

  • Burning

  • Itching

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Appearance or feel of the vagina (laxity)

  • Improvement in mild to moderate bladder control issues or overactive bladder

If you suffer from one or more of the above symptoms, the RejuVAnate laser can help, leaving you with stronger, more robust vaginal tissue, and healthy, remodeled vaginal mucosa.

 HORMONAL THERAPY

If your lack of sexual desire is linked to a change in your hormones, hormone therapy may be an opportunity to explore. Both pre- and post-menopausal women can experience hormone imbalances, with decreased estrogen (female hormones) and androgen (male hormones) playing a part. If your sexual dysfunction is due to a hormonal cause, treatment options might include:

  • Estrogen therapy – Estrogen is administered locally in the vagina via a vaginal ring, cream or tablet. The estrogen can improve the tone and elasticity of the vagina, while also increasing both lubrication and blood flow to the area.

  • Androgen therapy – This treatment includes testosterone, which women have in their bodies (although in lower amounts than men) and which play a role in sexual desire. If you have lower than normal levels of testosterone, the boost from hormone therapy may be what you need to increase your sexual desire.

Because excessive amounts of hormones can exacerbate certain health issues, it is important that you discuss your comprehensive medical history with your doctor before choosing this treatment.

If you are suffering from female sexual dysfunction, it’s time for you to reclaim your confidence and enhance your quality of life. Call Cosmetic Gynecology and Aesthetics today at 904-384-8023 to schedule a consultation and discover all of the ways that we can help you attain sexual health.

FEM SHOT

One of the treatments we offer at Cosmetic Gynecology and Aesthetics is the Fem Shot. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes growth factors from your own blood (known as platelet rich plasma therapy) to revitalize your vaginal tissue and clitoris to help alleviate female sexual dysfunction or simply to magnify your pleasure experience during intercourse.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE FEM SHOT PROCEDURE

The Fem Shot is a quick, virtually painless procedure that is performed right in our office. We start by drawing a small amount of your blood, then processing it through a centrifuge. Once the PRP is extracted, it is carefully injected into areas near the clitoris and upper vagina. We use topical anesthetic cream to reduce any discomfort you may experience.

WHAT THE FEM SHOT CAN TREAT

As we age and hormonal changes decrease the estrogen levels in our bodies, many women experience not only functional problems, but lack of sexual desire and loss of confidence in their sexuality. The Fem Shot may help if you suffer from:

  • Low sex drive

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Difficulty becoming aroused or achieving orgasm

These and other feminine sexual health issues can be addressed by the Fem Shot, including:

  • Increased sensitivity and sensation

  • Increased sexual desire

  • Stronger and more frequent orgasms

  • Increased natural lubrication

  • May decreased pain during intercourse

  • May decreased urinary incontinence

Individual results will vary, with some women experiencing more noticeable effects than others. Some women may need more than one treatment to achieve the results they desire.
